Aska lands with new team in Philippines
MBB: The 2012 Murray State alum just wrapped a season in Mexico
Former Murray State standout Ivan Aska has landed in the Philippines as he prepares to take the next step in his professional basketball journey.
Aska spent the last several months playing for Soles de Mexicali in the National Professional Basketball League in Mexico. Aska averaged 13.2 points and grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game this season for Soles de Mexicali.
Aska is joining the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Basketball Association. The PBA allows one international player to join the roster of each team. The Beermen needed to replace Tyler Stone after Stone returned home for the birth of his child. Aska and the Beermen will being play in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup starting November 15th. The 12-teams in the tournament will play 11 games in a round-robin format over the next two months. The top eight teams will then make the playoffs starting in mid-January.
Aska was the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, and earned First Team All-OVC honors in 2012. He is one of ten players in Murray State history with at least 1,218 points and 678 rebounds.
