Canaan helps Olympiacos win Greek Super Cup title
MBB: It's the second-straight year Olympiacos has won the Greek Super Cup
Olympiacos used a 27-0 run in the first half to help them rout Panathinaikos, 75-51, and win their second-straight Greek Super Cup.
Murray State Hall of Famer Isaiah Canaan scored 12 points to help Olympiacos get the win.
After taking an early 5-4 lead, Olympiacos ripped off their 27-0 run that helped them put the game away early with a 37-11 halftime lead.
As frustrations boiled over in the second half for Panathinaikos, Canaan and Panathinaikos’ Kostas Antetokounmpo got into a heated discussion that led to each player receiving technical fouls. Canaan wasn’t going to let that get in the way of celebrating a second-straight Greek Super Cup championship.
The Greek Super Cup is a four-team tournament that kicks off the season in Greece. The two top-ranked teams from the previous Greek Basket League season, along with the two finalists of the previous Greek Super Cup tournament, compete against each other in a single-elimination four-team tournament. Olympiacos earned their spot in the tournament after winning the Super Cup last season.
Olympiacos will get another shot at Panathinaikos on Friday as the two open play in the EuroLeague.
