Currie-Jelks signs with Murray State
WBB: The former OVC Freshman of the Year has two years of eligibility remaining
Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has officially signed to continue her college basketball career at Murray State.
The 6’2 forward from Jackson, Tennessee started her career at UT Martin, before spending the last two years at Indiana.
"Sharnecce is an outstanding addition for our program," Murray State Head Coach Rechelle Turner said in a statement. "She will add athleticism and experience to our front court, and she brings a versatile and clever offensive game to our high-octane attack. She has proven that she can score in the post, off the dribble, and with face up jumpers and will be a force on the backboards while being able to really run in transition. Best of all, Sharnecce is a terrific young woman who will fit perfectly in our championship culture. We are very excited to welcome her to the Murray State women's basketball family.”
Currie-Jelks was the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2022-23, earning First Team All-OVC honors, as she averaged 15.2 points and grabbed 6.9 rebounds at UT Martin.4

After her freshman season, Currie-Jelks transferred to Indiana, where she played a total of 19 minutes in nine games over the last two seasons, in part due to the birth of her daughter, Kay'lani, who was born last May.
Currie-Jelks was high school teammates with future Racer Jaidynn Askins. Currie-Jelks missed her senior season in 2021-22 at Jackson South Side High School as she recovered from a torn ACL, while Askins, as a freshman, helped the Hawks finish as Tennessee Class 3A state runners-up.
With the graduation of Katelyn Young and Ava Learn, Currie-Jelks will have an opportunity to fill a large interior void for the Racers. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
