EIU transfer Ellington commits to Racers
MBB: 6'8 forward fills one of two remaining scholarships for 2023-24
Eastern Illinois transfer Nick Ellington announced on his Twitter page Saturday night that he has committed to play at Murray State. Ellington will have two years of eligibility remaining.
At 6’8 and 220 pounds, Ellington provides some much needed interior size for the Racers for next season after the departures of Jamari Smith, DJ Burns, and Kenny White.
Ellington started 21 of 31 games for EIU last season, where he averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Ellington had a three-game stretch in mid-February where he showed the height of his offensive ceiling. He had 21 points against SIUe on February 11th; 17 points and eight rebounds on February 16th at SEMO; and 20 points and four rebounds at Little Rock on February 18th.
Before going to EIU, Ellington played two seasons at Meridian Community College in Mississippi. His 3.4 blocks per game in 2021-22 were third-most in the country in the junior college ranks.
He played his high school basketball at Cardinal Ritter — the same high school as former Racer Braxton Stacker.
With Ellington’s arrival, Murray State still has one scholarship to fill for the 2023-24 season. Here’s a look at the roster as it currently sits:
