Early in his Hall of Fame football career, former NFL linebacker Junior Seau had a teammate ask him why he practiced so hard.
“I get paid to practice,” Seau replied. “I play the games for free."
For Murray State’s Katelyn Young, she could already have wrapped up her own Hall of Fame career with the Racers. After becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer last March, Young decided to take advantage of her extra COVID year and return to Murray State for a fifth and final season. Coming back to school was going to give a Young a chance to play with her teammates in 30+ games this season. With those games come months of grueling practices to prepare to play in Rechelle Turner’s up-tempo system. While some may look at a fifth year of practice as a necessary evil, Young insists she’s committed to the day-to-day grind of being the best player she can be.
