Learn named MVC Player of the Week
WBB: The senior forward had double-doubles in wins over UNI and Drake
The Missouri Valley Conference announced on Monday that Murray State senior forward Ava Learn is the MVC Player of the Week. Learn had 14 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in Murray State’s win at Northern Iowa, and followed that up with 19 points and 13 rebounds in the Racers’ win at Drake.
Learn has put together four-straight double-doubles — the longest streak in her career. During those four games, she’s averaging 14.5 points and 15.0 rebounds a game. Learn is one of six players in the country this year to have at least three games with at least 17 rebounds.
“I just think that it goes to show all players that you don't have to score alone to be named Player of the Week,” Murray State Head Coach Rechelle Turner said. “She only scored 14 and 19, but the ability to score and rebound at that rate puts you in a position that you did two things that affected winning. I’m really glad to see people realize, and notice, how she changed both games for us this week.”
Learn and the Racers sit at 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference after their Iowa sweep of Drake and Northern Iowa. Murray State will put their four-game winning streak on the line Friday night when they host Indiana State.
