McCrear fully cleared after knee sugery
MBB: The redshirt freshman forward is back practicing with the team
About six weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery, Murray State redshirt freshman forward John McCrear has been fully cleared to return to all basketball activities.
Back in early August, Murray State Head Coach Steve Prohm said the surgery was meant to “clean (the knee) up a little bit.” Now that McCrear is medically cleared, he will be ready to roll when the team holds their first official practice of the 2024-25 season on Monday.
McCrear has struggled with the injury bug in the last several years. He missed most of his senior season at Woodford County High School in 2022-23 with a nagging knee injury. He did play sparingly in the final 11 games of that season, helping the Yellow Jackets earn a spot in the Kentucky state semifinals. Those knee issues lingered for him once he came to Murray State, as Prohm and the team’s medical staff made the decision to redshirt him last season and save a year of eligibility.
With McCrear ready to go, he will compete for playing time at the forward position with senior Nick Ellington and junior KyeRon Lindsay.
