Murray State picked 7th in preseason poll
MBB: Perry named to Missouri Valley Preseason Second Team
In a vote consisting of Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball coaches, sports information directors and media, Murray State slid in at #7 in the Valley’s preseason poll. Here’s a look at the entire poll:
After winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship for the second time in three years, Drake picked up a majority of the first-place votes with 24. Bradley, last year’s regular champion, came in third.
Voters have accurately predicted the league’s regular-season champion in only six of the past 11 years, and only 18 times in the last 38 seasons. With that said, 32 of those 38 preseason picks to win the Valley have gone on to postseason play, with 22 of the 32 playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Drake’s Tucker DeVries was named the Preseason Player of the Year. DeVries led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament last year, averaging 18.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Murray State’s Rob Perry earned a spot on the MVC Preseason Second Team. Perry led Murray State in scoring with 14.4 points per game. Perry needs 422 points this season to reach the 2,000-point plateau for his career.
