Murray State will play in the WNIT
WBB: It's the seventh postseason berth for the Racers in program history
The Racers aren’t done just yet.
For the second time in three seasons, Murray State will play in the WNIT. The tournament released the 48 teams in the field on Sunday night, and the Racers received one of the at-large bids.
Murray State lost to Missouri State in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night. Despite the loss, the Racers had 20 wins this season in the 13th-best conference in the country, according to the NCAA NET rankings. With a NET ranking of #107, internally there was a high level of optimism Murray State would get a chance to play again this season. Tonight, that confidence was rewarded.
The matchups and brackets for the tournament will be released on Monday. Sixteen teams will be given byes into the Round of 32. The other 32 teams will play first round games, sometime between Wednesday and Friday, to earn their spot into the Round of 32.
Illinois State, Northern Iowa and UIC are the other Missouri Valley teams that will take part in the WNIT.
There is one other significant note about the Racers getting to play at least one additional game this season. Senior forward Katelyn Young is just two points away from becoming Murray State’s all-time leading scorer. She’ll have an opportunity to set that mark later this week.
