Shorter says he intends to be a Racer
MBB: The 6'5 guard led Division II in made three-pointers last season

If Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller was looking for more shooting in the transfer portal, he appears to have found it in Brayden Shorter. The 6’5 guard posted on social media on Wednesday that he has committed to continue his college career at Murray State.
Shorter started 33 of 34 games this year for Division II Washburn, as he averaged 15.5 points per game while shooting 36.7% from beyond the arc. He led all of Division II with 119 made three-pointers this season helping lead Washburn to the national semifinals. Shorter made at least four triples in 15 different games, while scoring in double figures 29 times.
Only five Division I players last season made at least 119 threes while knocking down at least 36.7% from three.
The product of Springfield, Missouri posted on X several weeks ago that he had an offer from his hometown Missouri State Bears.
Hoop Scoop Media posted on X that Shorter, since entering the transfer portal, had heard from more than a dozen schools, including Lipscomb, Wyoming, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Indiana State, Milwaukee, UTSA, Missouri State, Iona, Furman, Liberty, Oakland, UIC and North Dakota.
Shorter will have two years of eligibility remaining.
With Shorter’s commitment, Murray State now has nine players who are set to be on next year’s roster playing for the Racers:
Ben Shtolzberg (6’4 senior guard/3.8 PPG last year at UC Santa Barbara)
KJ Tenner (6’0 sophomore guard/2.4 PPG last year at West Virginia)
Mason Miller (6’9 senior guard/1.1 PPG last year at Creighton)
Fredrick King (6’9 senior forward/2.7 PPG last year at Creighton)
JJ Traynor (6’9 senior forward/5.6 PPG last year at DePaul)
Javon Jackson (6’3 senior guard/11.6 PPG last year at UIC)
Layne Taylor (5’11 sophomore guard/17.4 PPG last year at Central Arkansas)
Brock Vice (6’10 sophomore forward (1.2 PPG last year at North Texas)
Brayden Shorter (6’5 junior guard/15.5 PPG last year at D-II Washburn)
Here are the four players who could potentially return to the Racers next year, but have yet to make anything publicly official regarding their future:
Junior guard Patrick Chew
Senior guard Justin Morgan
Incoming freshman guard Tristian Ford
Incoming freshman guard Kaden Rickard
Once any of those four players publicly announce their intention to play for the Racers next year, they will count toward the six available scholarships Miller still has the ability to fill for the 2025-26 season.
And still not done, even if he retains Chew, Morgan, Ford and Rickard, there are still 2 open spots. Goodness!!
Hey when do we expect Brock Vice to sign?
