Southern Illinois has hired Scott Nagy to be their new men’s basketball coach.
Nagy has been a head coach for 29 seasons at both South Dakota State and Wright State. He spent 21 years at South Dakota State, helping the school transition from Division II to Division I. Nagy had a record of 410-240 in his time at the school. After taking the Jackrabbits to the Division II national tournament eight times in nine years, he took the school to the NCAA Division I tournament in 2012, 2013 and 2016.
After that 2016 season, Nagy moved on to Wright State where he coached for the last eight seasons. He won 167 games in his time at Wright State, taking the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2022.
"I'm extremely excited to welcome Coach Nagy to Saluki Nation," SIU Athletics Director Tim Leonard said in a statement. "His record speaks for itself. He is a winner in every sense of the word and will be a perfect fit for our program, the campus community and the region."
Nagy replaces Bryan Mullins, who was fired earlier this month after five seasons as SIU’s head coach.
