SIU's Elliott out for year with ACL tear
MBB: The senior guard was second on the team in scoring this season
Southern Illinois announced Monday that senior guard Elijah Elliott will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during SIU’s game at Florida on Friday.
"Elijah has been a tremendous teammate since he arrived on campus this summer," Southern Illinois head coach Scott Nagy said in a statement. "It's a devastating injury for him and our program. He is still going to make a significant impact on our team this year through his leadership and I'm confident that he will come back even stronger and is going to have a bright future."
Elliott scored a season-high 23 points in the season-opener against Charleston on November 4th. He’s tied for second on the team in scoring with 14.0 points per game, while shooting 50.9% from the floor and 34.6% from the three-point line. Elliott led Texas-Rio Grande Valley in scoring last season with 16.6 points a night.
SIU is in action Monday afternoon against Louisiana Tech in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida.
Ouch. Not good news for that program.
