Before Radford hosts Elon on Sunday, the Highlander program will honor senior guard DaQuan Smith for scoring his 1000th career point.
Smith spent his first four collegiate seasons at Murray State. He missed all but three games of the 2018-19 season with a foot injury and earned a medical redshirt. Smith’s best season in Murray came during the 2019-20 season where he started 30 of 32 games and averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 assists per game.
After the 2021-22 season, Smith entered the transfer portal and committed to play at Radford. Former Murray State Assistant Coach Shane Nichols was already at Radford coaching under his brother Darris.
Smith has excelled for the Highlanders in his two years at Radford. Last season, he averaged 13.9 points and shot a career high 40.4% from three-point range on his way to earning 2nd Team All-Big South Conference honors. Smith was voted to the Preseason All-Big South 1st Team this season.
Smith scored his 1000th career point in a loss at VCU on November 15th. He scored 18 points in the season-opener at North Carolina, and has scored at least 20 points in three of the last four games. Smith is Radford’s second-leading scorer this season with 14.6 points per game.
