Former Murray State Racer Anthony Smith spent his first three professional seasons playing in Serbia, France and Portugal. Smith was excited to get closer to home when, back in July, he signed with Halcones Rojos De Veracruz in Mexico’s National Professional Basketball League.
That excitement only lasted a little more than two months.
After playing just six games with Halcones Rojos De Veracruz, Smith has left the team to join the IHC Apes of the Mongolian Professional Basketball League. Smith told me that ultimately playing in Mexico was “not a good fit for me.'“
Smith played in six games in Mexico, where he averaged 14 minutes and 5.0 points per game. In his final game with the team, Smith was scoreless in just four minutes of action.
He now heads to Mongolia where he joins an IHC Apes team that was just created back in 2021. The team finished fourth in the league standings last season.
