SMU coming to Murray in December
MBB: This will be the first-ever meeting between the Racers and the Mustangs
SMU released their schedule today, and surprisingly enough, you’ll find a pre-Christmas trip to Murray for the Mustangs. It’s not often the Racers get a Power Six school to come to the CFSB Center — the last time was when Auburn came to Murray back in 2017.
This will be the first year of a home-and-home series between the two. December’s matchup will be their first meeting ever.
Under first-year head coach Rob Lanier, the Mustangs went 10-22 overall and 5-13 in the American Athletic Conference last season. SMU returns leading scorer Zhuric Phelps who averaged 17.3 points per game last season.
It appears the Racers still have three non-conference games left to announce — unless their opponents beat them to it.
Here is an updated list of Murray State’s non-conference games that have been publicly announced so far for the 2023-24 season:
November 1st vs. TBA opponent (at Racer Arena)
November 6th vs. Midway
November 10th vs. Tennessee Tech
November 14th vs. Western Kentucky
November 20th vs. UNC Wilmington (Fort Myers Tip-Off Event)
November 22nd vs. Appalachian State (Fort Myers Tip-Off Event)
December 9th at Austin Peay
December 22nd vs. SMU
December 30th vs. Middle Tennessee State
