Tenner says he's committed to the Racers
MBB: The Memphis product has three years of eligibility remaining
KJ Tenner, who played last season at West Virginia, posted on social media Wednesday afternoon that he has committed to Murray State.
Tenner is a 6’0 guard from Memphis, who played his prep basketball at Cordova High School. In 30 games with WVU last season, he averaged 13.2 minutes, 2.4 points, 1.1 assists and 0.4 turnovers per game.
Here are some highlights from Tenner’s freshman season:
Tenner had a career-high 10 points in West Virginia’s season-opening win over Robert Morris, where he knocked down both of his three-point attempts.
For the season, Tenner shot 35.0% from the floor and 15.4% (4-for-26) from three-point range. He also had 32 assists against just 12 turnovers.
Coming out of high school, Tenner won Mr. Basketball in Tennessee’s Class 4A after averaging 21 points per game. His scoring actually went down throughout his career, as Tenner averaged 28 points per game as a sophomore and 23 points as a junior. It took him just 42 varsity games to reach 1,000 career points, which was the fastest in Cordova High School history.
With Tenner saying he’s committed, Murray State now has three players who are set to be on next year’s roster:
KJ Tenner (6’0 sophomore guard)
Mason Miller (6’9 senior guard)
Fredrick King (6’9 senior forward)
Here are the eight players who could return to the Racers next year, but have yet to make anything official:
Senior forward Alden Applewhite
Junior guard Patrick Chew
Senior forward Nick Ellington (has entered the transfer portal, but isn’t ruling out returning to Murray State)
Senior forward KyeRon Lindsay (has entered the transfer portal, but Murray State appears interested in bringing him back)
Sophomore forward Jordan McCullum
Senior guard Justin Morgan
Incoming freshman guard Tristian Ford
Incoming freshman guard Kaden Rickard
