Two UIC starters say they're entering portal
MBB: The news comes after UIC Head Coach Luke Yaklich was fired today
On the same day UIC announced Head Coach Luke Yaklich would not return for a fifth season with the Flames, a pair of UIC players are reportedly entering the transfer portal.
The Portal Report (@ThePortalReport on X/Twitter) is reporting sophomore guard CJ Jones and junior guard Ethan Pickett will be entering the portal. The transfer portal opens on Monday, March 18th for schools to be able to contact available players.
Jones started 31 of 33 games for the Flames, as he was second on the team with 11.4 points per game. He also led UIC with 4.8 assists per game. Jones averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two games against Murray State this season.
Pickett started 27 games for UIC this season, averaging 6.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Pickett averaged 10.0 points against Murray State this season, making 8-of-11 shots from the field.
Along with Pickett and Jones, UIC will likely need to replace four seniors off this year’s roster.
