UE's Pozzato, Comer off to transfer portal

MBB: Evansville's two leading scorers from this season are leaving the program

Tayshawn Comer and Gabriel Pozzato, Evansville’s two leading scorers from this past season, intend to enter the transfer portal which opens next Monday.

Sam Kayser is reporting Comer will be looking for his third school in four years. The 6’1 guard from Indianapolis played his first two seasons at Eastern Kentucky, where he started 66 of 68 games and averaged 7.9 points.

After transferring to Evansville, Comer started all 32 games this season, leading the team in scoring (16.2 PPG) and assists (4.1 APG). He had a season-high 27 points against Murray State in the Aces’ win over the Racers in Evansville January 29th. Comer earned Third Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors this year.

Evansville Head Coach David Ragland is also losing freshman standout Gabriel Pozzato, according to The Athletic. After missing eight games with an injury, Pozzato started the other 24 games while averaging 14.9 points per game. The 6’7 freshman from Rome, Italy earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Freshman Team. He had a career-high 29 points in Evansville win over the Racers at the Ford Center.

With Comer entering the portal, there are now only five of the 16 All-Conference players, either due to graduating or entering the transfer portal, that are returning next year … so far. The transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Monday, March 24th.
