Young named MVC Player of the Week
WBB: The senior forward has led the Racers to six straight wins
Murray State senior forward Katelyn Young is the Missouri Valley Conference’s Player of the Week after scoring 29 points in the Racers’ win at Western Carolina last Monday.
Young is averaging 20.1 points and 8.1 points per game this season, leading the Racers in both categories. She is one of eight players in the country to be averaging at least 20.1 points and 8.1 rebounds.
Young recorded her fourth double-double of the season at Western Carolina, giving her 34 for her career. Murray State’s career double-double record is 48, held by Stephanie Minor who played for the Racers from 1994-97.
With 1,868 career points, Young is currently Murray State’s sixth all-time leading scorer. She is ten points away from catching Amber Guffey for fifth, and 420 points from passing Sheila Smith and becoming #1 all-time in Racer history.
Murray State will return to action on Saturday when they host Valparaiso to open Missouri Valley Conference play.
