Young named Preseason All-MVC First Team
WBB: Murray State lands at 7th in the Valley preseason poll

As Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Media Day gets underway in Moline, Illinois, Murray State senior forward Katelyn Young has earned one of six spots on the Preseason All-MVC First Team.
Conference coaches, sports information directors and media voted Northern Iowa’s Grace Bofelli the Valley’s Preseason Player of the Year.
Last season, in her first season playing in the Missouri Valley, Young earned First Team All-Conference honors. She was one of only six players in the country last year to average at least 21.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Young has scored 1,687 points in her first three years at Murray State, which is good for 8th all-time in program history. Young needs 601 points this season to pass Sheila Smith to become Murray State’s all-time leading scorer. For those scoring at home, Young scored 643 and 662 points in each of her last two seasons.
On the team side, voters picked Murray State to finish 7th in the Missouri Valley Conference Race.
Northern Iowa picked up 33 of a possible 48 first-place votes on the way to being named the preseason’s #1 pick for the first time in program history.
Murray State finished in 8th-place last season in their first year in the Missouri Valley. The Racers will play their first two conference games at home this season, and they have an opportunity to a good start in Valley play. Murray State will host Valparaiso (10th in the preseason poll) on December 30th, and then Bradley (12th in the preseason poll) on January 4th.
