Young named to Hammon Award watch list
WBB: The senior forward has led Murray State to a 12-2 record this season
Murray State’s Katelyn Young is one of 15 players who has been named to the midseason watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.
Young leads the Racers in both scoring and rebounding this season as she’s averaging 18.6 and 7.9 rebounds per game. She’s one of 13 players in the country to be averaging at least those numbers in both categories.
The senior forward is no stranger to the Becky Hammon Award. This is the third-straight year she has been named to the midseason watch list. Young joins Buffalo’s Dyaisha Fair as the only players in the history of the award to be on the midseason watch list three times. Young was named a semifinalist for the award during the 2022 season.
The ten semifinalists will be announced in February, and then the five finalists will be named in March. The winner will be announced around the Final Four.
Drake’s Katie Dinnebier is the only player from the Missouri Valley Conference to be named to this list.
